Father’s Day is this weekend, and what better gift is there than the gift of good-smelling feet? The tips below may be the best gift yet. Not only does Dad win, because he doesn’t have to be embarrassed by smelly feet anymore, but the whole family will appreciate it as well.
Foot odor is caused by the combination of excessive sweating and your footwear. Hyperhidrosis is the condition that causes your body to sweat more, and it affects men more often than women. Other things that can increase the amount of sweat you produce include hormones, medications, and fluid intake. When feet are sweaty, wearing the same shoes every day is not recommended. They need time to breathe and dry out before you wear them again, and if your feet are in there every day, they won’t have time to do that. Cycle through two or three pairs of shoes, so they never become too damp and allow bacteria to set up a home.
To prevent foot odor, there are a few more things you should do. Always wear clean socks with shoes that are made of breathable fabric. Make sure you clean your feet at least once a day with an antibacterial soap. Use baby powder on your feet and in your shoes to help keep them dry and fresh. As mentioned above, don’t wear the same pair of shoes two days in a row. Check your feet for signs of fungal infection or Athlete’s foot, and if you notice anything out of the ordinary, get it treated. If you suffer from smelly feet, you can try soaking them in a black tea solution, or a vinegar and water solution.
If you are ready to sweeten your feet, or know someone else who is, call Dr. Viedra Elison at (623) 584-5556 to schedule an appointment. Let the staff at Fixing Feet Institute in Surprise, AZ help eliminate persistent foot odor, so you won’t be embarrassed anymore.
