We always make a million resolutions for the New Year that we never keep. This year, make one or two very attainable goals: to be more physically fit and to practice general foot care for foot health. With our help you should be able to keep these resolutions through the year and for the rest of your life.

Deciding to become more physically fit is a wonderful life choice. You will find that you have more energy during the day, sleep better at night, and may notice a loss in weight. There are hidden benefits too, such as increased circulation and better heart health. When starting a new exercise program you should always consult with your doctor. Make sure you don’t start out at something that is too intense or you could injure yourself. Also, choose an activity you love to do. If you can’t stand the thought of the gym, save yourself the money and go outside for a walk or a run. If cardio kickboxing sounds like your thing, give that a try. Just do you!

Not only is your physical health a priority for the upcoming year, but your foot health too. This is the year when you will begin to practice good daily foot care. This is especially important for diabetics. Wash your feet every day, even if you just soak them in warm water with Epsom salt. When they are clean, dry them very thoroughly to avoid a fungal infection. Try and keep calluses and corns at bay by using a pumice stone on hard areas after your foot soak. When you trim your nails remember to do it straight across (not at an angle) and then file them to your desired shape. Limit high heel and flip-flop wearing as much as possible. The sturdier your shoes, the more support they will offer and your feet will thank you for it.
