A vascular screening is a quick, simple, and painless way for us to check the strength of your circulation as it passes through your legs. You don’t need to do any preparation beforehand.

The test is performed using an arterial doppler, which is essentially a specialized form of ultrasound. It’s completely harmless and allows us to get a clear look at the blood vessels supplying your feet and lower legs, and determine if there are any blockages, constrictions, or other concerning signs.

If necessary, we may follow up with further diagnostic testing if we spot something unusual and need to confirm a diagnosis.

Vascular testing is covered by nearly every insurance provider (including Medicare) and is typically included as part of our routine diabetic foot care examinations, as well as other checkups. That said, if you are:

  • 65 years of age or older (regardless of health status)

  • Have any family or personal history of diabetes, peripheral artery disease, or any circulatory or cardiovascular problems (especially if you’re 50 or older)

  • Have been experiencing any symptoms associated with circulatory problems such as peripheral artery disease, deep vein thrombosis, etc. (regardless of age)

… then we strongly recommend you call us to schedule a foot checkup and vascular screening in the near future. Don’t wait until it’s too late! Regular testing is one of the easiest and most important ways to protect your feet and your long-term health.
