Those with diabetes have more to worry about when it comes to foot care. Neuropathy can take a major toll on feet and their ability to feel pain. In addition to monitoring your disease and keeping it under control, there are some other things to keep in mind as a diabetic runner. First and foremost, get clearance from your doctor. If you are new to running, start off by walking so you can build up intensity gradually. It’s very important to make sure you are wearing the right footwear too. This differs for everyone, so go in and get sized by a specialist.
When you run, make sure you go prepared with glucose tablets, water, and some juice. It’s also a good idea to go with a friend in case something should happen.
