Football season is back, and if there’s one thing these athletes know about it is plantar fasciitis. This is one of the most common reasons for heel pain, and people who are active run an even higher risk than most. Fortunately, treating this condition is fairly simple so you can get back to your high-paced lifestyle quickly and painlessly.
The plantar fascia is a thick band of tissue that runs along the bottom of your foot connecting your heel to your toes. If it becomes inflamed, it can become very painful to go about your daily life. Plantar fasciitis is characterized by more intense pain in the morning or after resting your feet for a period of time. It might feel better with use, but then the cycle repeats itself. Over time, it may change the way you walk, and that can lead to more serious problems. It’s important that you don’t try to “push through” the pain, and instead get diagnosed and treated.

You can even roll a frozen water bottle along your arch, which not only stretches the tissue but also helps with pain. Foot inserts are a great way to add extra cushion where you might need it. It’s a good idea to get them custom-made for your feet. Make sure your shoes fit you well and aren’t suffering from any wear and tear that might be aggravating your condition. In some severe cases, treatment might include more intense methods, such as laser therapy, extracorporeal shockwave therapy, or even surgery.
